Sir George Young, Secretary of State for Transport, has appointed a new Vice-Chairman of the British Railways Board. He is James Jerram, CBE, existing BR Board Finance Director. The new appointment, which takes effect from 17 October 1996, was made after consultation with BR Chairman and Chief Executive, John Welsby. NOTES FOR EDITORS 1. James Jerram (57) graduated in history and economics from Selwyn College, Cambridge, and then qualified as a chartered accountant, prior to a career in the telecommunications and electronic sector. He was appointed as a full-time member of the BR Board, with particular responsibility for financial and planning matters, with effect from 1 January 1991. He took on responsibility for the BR Property Board in 1994, and was elected Chairman of the Railways Pension Trustee Company Limited in August of this year. 2. The previous Vice-Chairman was Christopher Campbell, CBE who, following the substantial completion of sales of BR ancillary business which he had overseen, relinquished his appointment as Vice-Chairman of the BR Board on 1 August 1996.
