The 1997 edition of the "Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail" (RID) has been published. The Regulations cover the whole of Europe and were drawn up by the Central Office for International Railway Transport which represents all European railways. The Regulations are published every two years and are aimed at industry and railway companies. The new edition includes a fully revised section covering the carriage of gases, tables listing all substances covered by RID along with their danger labels, marking and United Nations identification numbers and a section containing information on the carriage of substances and articles of RID via the Channel Fixed Link in through freight trains.
