London Underground has been commended for the second year running in the Industrial Products category of the Design Week Awards for an adjustable leaflet rack. The Eighth Design Week awards were held last week in the Natural History Museum. The rack is adjustable on site to take different sizes of leaflet and easily converts any corporate standard poster frame into a promotional poster site complete with racks of appropriate leaflets in front.

The work was commissioned for London Underground's Customer Information Manager, Mike Stallard, who said "We recognised our customers need for more take away information about the services and ticketing that we offer. Space is obviously at a premium in our ticket halls and a flexible approach was needed to adjust the areas between posters and leaflets. This design best suited our needs and we are very happy with the end product." The rack which was designed by Tim Rodd of Rodd Industrial Designs, is made from cast aluminium, is adjustable in size, is self cleaning and doesn't allow for rubbish to be placed in the leaflet pockets. Christopher Nell, London Underground's Design Manager - Environment, described the design as "pared down functionality expressed through an elegant pebble form".

This is the second time London Transport has been commended in the Industrial Products category of the Design Week Awards. Last year it was commended for its cable management system, designed by Goodwin Emck.
