The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Sir Roger Cork, will be escorted on a behind-the-scenes look at London Underground during his first official visit on Friday 20 June 1997.

The Lord Mayor, Alderman Sir Roger Cork said: "It’s a pleasure to see the development and technology going on behind the scenes of London’s busy tube network. Such large scale investment is what the Underground needs and I look forward to seeing future developments."

Denis Tunnicliffe, LU Managing Director said: "I am delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor on his first official visit to London Underground. The City of London has long recognised the vital role that public transport plays in the capital and our need for sustained investment. This tour provides us with a further opportunity to re-inforce that message."

The visit will commence at Earl’s Court Station with a brief introduction to the Underground, followed by a tour of the Control Centre for the District and Piccadilly Lines.

The Lord Mayor will then travel on the District Line to London Transport’s headquarters at St. James’s Park for a discussion on Network Operations. Hugh Doherty, Project Director will then lead a behind-the-scenes look at the Jubilee Line Extension site at Westminster.

Finally, the Lord Mayor will enjoy a ride in the cab of a train to Monument Station followed by a brief tour of the station.
