The new 200,000 sq. ft comprehensive leisure scheme to be constructed above the present Bromley South Station, will practically rebuild the station, completely transforming the facilities on offer. Detailed design work has yet to be completed but the new improved station will feature full disabled access to the new ticket office, concourse area and down to the platforms. New retail kiosks and buffet/restaurant facility will also form part of the design. Bob Hill, Director, Property said: "This new station is great news for the town and its rail users. It will be light and airy with improved passenger facilities, full disabled access and will benefit from the high levels of security, including CCTV, which will be incorporated into the whole development." Designed by Benoy, the development will create a new single destination leisure scheme of three stories, it will be fully integrated into a major transport interchange combining the new station complex along with local transport facilities. Railtrack has selected Marylebone Warwick Balfour as the preferred developer for the scheme which will feature an extensive frontage on the High Street in the very heart of the town. The complex will include a 70,000 sq. ft multiplex cinema, family entertainment centre and nightclub along with complementary restaurant units and a life style retail mall. Simon Leadbetter, a director of Marylebone Warwick Balfour, said: "This development is a major opportunity for Bromley to secure a much needed leisure facility which will prove to be a landmark leisure and recreational development within the south east." Bob Hill continued, "These plans are at an early stage at the moment with the full details and logistics of construction yet to be completed. The station will have its own very clear identity and will not be 'swallowed up' by the development above. The station will remain operational at all times and Railtrack is working closely with Connex South Eastern to ensure that information is provided for station users and any inconvenience kept to a minimum."
