 type Press release
note ORR/98/13
The Rail Regulator, John Swift QC, will today open a new ticketing and welcome lounge at Edinburgh Waverley Station. The new lounge is part of a £200,000 ScotRail investment programme to provide passengers with comfortable waiting accomodation which will include a complimentary tea, coffee and soft drinks service.
Commenting on these new passenger facilities, John Swift said, "The passengers who use Scotland’s railways rightly expect the highest standards in services on trains and at stations and I am particularly pleased to open this new lounge for ScotRail’s passengers who will be using Edinburgh Waverley Station. For many thousands every year, this station is the gateway to Scotland.
"As the Rail Regulator in Scotland, to whom Scottish railway passengers look for the protection of their interests, I have set demanding objectives for passenger train and station operators in Scotland as well as for Railtrack. Scottish railway operators are now at the forefront among those who have responded by providing new services, new trains and the new facilities that we are seeing here today. This shows that our new railway, in a public sector and private sector partnership, is able to deliver and must continue to deliver the improvements expected by passengers."
