date 7 June 1999 source ATOC
type Press release
The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) is to put extra emphasis and resources into its communications and policy outputs in the face of substantial anticipated increases in the Association’s workload.
The Communications and Policy function is to be expanded into three: Government and Regional Affairs, a new Policy and Regulation Unit and Media Relations.
David Campbell Bannerman, Communications Director of ATOC for nearly two years, who is credited with successfully establishing ATOC as the high profile official voice of the passenger rail industry amongst media and opinion formers, is to be appointed Government and Regional Affairs Director at ATOC.
David will be concentrating on the burgeoning area of Government Relations in anticipation of new Westminster legislation and as a consequence of the new demands devolution is creating. He will be working closely with the new Public Affairs agency(ies) for ATOC that are currently in the final selection process; these will be chosen for their strengths in Regional as well as Westminster politics.
Giles Fearnley, Chairman of ATOC, commented: "David has done an excellent job building up ATOC’s profile amongst the media and opinion formers nationwide.
"Now, with the burgeoning nature of the communications and policy portfolio, we have decided to expand the number of senior staff dedicated to communications and spread the enhanced role between Media, Government Relations and Policy Formulation. David will take the lead in the Government Relations area, Alec McTavish will head up a Policy and Regulations Unit and the Director will look to recruit a press person. All will report directly to the Director, George Muir."
