Britain's train operators have described performance figures published today by the Strategic Rail Authority as encouraging results, which reflect the hard work that has been put in over the past year.
George Muir, Director of the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) said since the government's rail summit in November last year, the privatised rail industry has worked harder and closer together than ever before.
"These performance figures highlight the industry's determination to provide passengers with a high quality service. With more than 100 new vehicles now in service and another 1,000 expected by this time next year, train companies aim to improve on these results next year by faster, safer and more reliable trains".
"However, the acid test for the industry lies in performance over winter. We have had a difficult autumn so we will have to do the best we can to maintain these results through to next year."
