The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) today launched the new edition of the 'National Rail Conditions of Carriage' which brings additional benefits to thousands of rail users.

The 'National Rail Conditions of Carriage' sets out passengers' rights and the minimum level of service they are entitled to expect. The new edition lists several changes which see real improvements for passengers:

If a passenger's train is delayed or cancelled, they can obtain an immediate full refund for an unused ticket, even if it was purchased at a different station.
If a passenger's journey is delayed for one hour or more, the minimum compensation they can claim has been increased from 10% to 20% of the ticket price paid.
The deadline for claiming compensation for journey delays has been extended from two to 28 days.
The minimum period lost property must be held for has been extended from one to three months.
Phillip Benham, Commercial Services Director of ATOC said: "We are always looking at ways to improve the service we provide to customers. The new 'National Rail Conditions of Carriage' will further protect the rights of passengers on the rail network."
