Responding to Transport 2000's new rail campaign, 'Platform', ATOC Director of Public Communications, Dr Elizabeth Haywood, said:
"Transport 2000's campaign aimed at increasing government funding has the support of the train operators. We share everyone's desire for a bigger, better railway. However, the industry cannot fund such investment alone. Government funding of some £1.5bn a year for the next 10 years will be required to deliver the world class railway that will carry passengers more reliably and quickly in the future.
"We know the government is committed to improving public transport and we are optimistic that the necessary funding will be provided for rail in the forthcoming 10 Year Transport Plan."
