Commenting on the Rail Regulator's Periodic Review into Railtrack's Access Charges published today, ATOC Director General, George Muir said:
"Access charges are the single biggest expenditure for train companies. We want Railtrack to become an efficient, responsive and profitable company.
In previous rounds of consultation we asked that Railtrack should share in the benefit of growth without reducing the incentive on train operators to run more trains. The Regulator has listened to us and we believe that his proposals will achieve these twin goals.
The Regulator's provisional conclusions on a new track access contract, issued earlier this week, are equally important. Again, the Regulator has responded to our request to ensure that what is promised by Railtrack will be delivered."
