As part of the creation of Railway Safety, Rod Muttram has resigned his position as a director of Railtrack Group PLC, Railtrack PLC and Railtrack Holdings Ltd.

Mr Muttram ceased to be a director on 30 December in order to comply with Railtrack PLC's amended Network Licence and the Railways (Safety Case) Regulations 2000 which require the new body Railway Safety to be set up.

Mr Muttram takes up the position of Chief Executive of Railway Safety, which is a not-for-profit body is limited by guarantee and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Railtrack Group PLC. It is separate from its operational sister company Railtrack PLC.

Railway Safety was established following a Department of the Environment Transport & the Regions review after the Ladbroke Grove accident which recommended that Railtrack PLC's Safety & Standards Directorate be established as a separate organisation to increase demonstrable independence of its activities and separation from Railtrack PLC's commercial interests.
