Wessex Trains and First Western National have joined forces to improve services for rail passengers this summer travelling from Newquay.
On weekdays from Monday 21 July until Friday 29 August, passengers will be able to travel using their rail tickets on the 0840 Newquay to St Austell bus.
Following necessary changes in the summer timetable the first return rail service on the Newquay line was withdrawn to improve performance and increase capacity on rail services in Cornwall. Now, in a move supported by the Western Rail Passengers Committee, passengers can travel on the morning First Western National bus to St Austell making it possible for passengers from Newquay to reach Plymouth an hour earlier. With the bus station adjacent to the railway station at St Austell, passengers have a seamless transfer from road to rail.
Passengers should note that this arrangement only applies to the 0840 Newquay to St Austell bus operated by First Western National for the period 21 July to 29 August.
Commenting on the changes, Wessex Trains Devon & Cornwall Business Manager, Andrew Griffiths, said: “This is a good example of how the rail and bus industry can work together for the benefit of passengers.”
