Hull Trains had a pleasant surprise in store for one lucky passenger today [Tuesday 17 August].

When Sian Sellers of Sutton boarded the 10.06 service from Hull’s Paragon Station to London with her husband Paul and children, Jenny (11) and Michael (8), she had no idea that she was Hull Trains’ millionth customer!

Sian was greeted by members of the Hull Trains team, who presented her with a bottle of champagne and free tickets for a return trip to London for her family. Fittingly, two of the longest-serving members of the Hull Trains team were on duty to witness the special occasion. Train Manager, Brian Terry, and Train Driver, Brian Shores, have both been with the company since it was formed almost four years ago in September, 2000. Also present were the On-board Hospitality Team of Julie Martin and Zoe Beaumont.

A surprised, but delighted, Sue said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be the one millionth person to travel on Hull Trains. I travel regularly with the company and have always enjoyed my days out to London. The customer service is great, their new trains are so clean and comfortable and it is always very reasonably priced – every journey is a real pleasure.
“It was a really lovely surprise and I was delighted to receive the champagne and free tickets. I know that my family and I will thoroughly enjoy having another outing to London in the not too distant future.”

Paul Lakin, Commercial Manager for Hull Trains, explained: “Hull Trains is approaching its fourth Birthday and we are really pleased at the way we have evolved as a company during that time. To have had one million people using our services is a fantastic achievement and we are constantly striving to enhance the level of service that we provide so that we increase passenger numbers even further. Next year we will introduce £21½ million worth of new high tech trains which will be amongst the very best anywhere on the British Railway network.

“I hope that Mrs Sellers and her family enjoy their journey and that they will visit us again soon with their free tickets.”
