Hull Trains prepares for additional services

Hull Trains is developing an agreement with Network Rail prior to making a submission to the Office of Rail Regulation to further increase the number of services it provides daily between Hull and London.

The submission will be based on the introduction in spring, 2005, of new faster 125mph, high acceleration Class 222 trains, a £23m investment that will significantly reduce journey times, initially by nearly 10% in some services. The trains are currently under construction in Belgium and follow the introduction of £14 million worth of brand-new Class 170 trains earlier this year.

The Hull-based rail operator currently provides five direct services to London each day, calling at Brough, Howden, Selby, Doncaster and Grantham, and is looking to add an additional daily service starting from next summer.

Hull Trains has gone from strength to strength since it was formed little more than four years ago and this latest submission to the Office of Rail Regulation is further evidence of its continuing growth and development.

Managing Director Mark Leving explained: “Demand for our services continues to increase significantly year on year, so this is a natural progression for us and we will be putting a detailed case together in a submission to secure a sixth return service.

“If the bid is successful, it means that the frequency of our trains will be enhanced even further and many more people will be able to enjoy the benefit and experience of travelling by Hull Trains. This can only be good news for our customers, the City of Hull and the East Riding.”
