Leaving Hull Paragon station exactly on time at 15.32pm [[15.32]], the first passenger-carrying Hull Trains Class 222 Pioneer made its maiden journey this week. The train was the first of four new trains which will be brought into service over the next month; with the whole fleet in service by the middle of June.
The first passengers on board were London-bound Rebecca Corridan and Sherif George and they were delighted with the new train. Rebecca said, “We are really impressed with the train – its livery looks fantastic and inside it’s modern, comfortable and spacious. I think Hull Trains has done a great job.”
The fleet of four-car trains, a £24m investment, is coming into service on time and on budget; bringing not just faster journey times, but greater passenger comfort and improvements in both First and Standard classes. The new Class 222 Pioneer, which has seats for 192 passengers, where the current Class 170 accommodates 159, features other benefits including additional leg room, domestic sockets throughout the train, improved heating and ventilation, electronic seat reservation and improved facilities for disabled passengers.
The 222s have unrivalled acceleration and speeds of up to 125mph, bringing journey-time improvements of as much as twenty minutes - introduced incrementally through the national timetable changes.
