New free bus service links to Stratford International

Commuters and local people using high speed train services in Stratford will benefit from a new free shuttle bus linking the area's railway stations, Rail Minister Andrew Adonis has announced.

The new link will enable rail passengers travelling from Kent to use the new Stratford International Station to join the London transport network at Stratford Regional Station without having to travel into central London.

The new high-speed rail link, run by Southeastern between Kent and St Pancras, and stopping in Stratford, is set to start on the 13 December 2009.

The new shuttle bus will provide a free service to Southeastern ticket holders between the new Stratford International station and the existing Regional station.

Andrew Adonis said:

"The new shuttle bus service will benefit all passengers, be they local people using the high speed rail service or commuters coming in from Kent to work in the capital.

"I am pleased to see the commitment of all stakeholders involved in delivering a quality interchange service between the new Stratford International Station and the Regional Station."

Notes for Editors

1. Southeastern is the train operator for the new high-speed domestic service that will commence on 13 December 2009.

2. The high-speed domestic trains will run on the High Speed 1 line into St Pancras International, but will also operate into north and east Kent along Network Rail routes.

3. The new trains are being built by Hitachi in Japan. A total of 29 six-car trains are being supplied.

4. The trains will be able to operate at speeds up to 225kph (140mph) on HS1.

8. The Dockland Light Railway is being extended to Stratford International Station. This extension is expected to be opened in July 2010.
