note DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT News Release (002) issued by COI News Distribution Service. 8 January 2009

The Minister of State for Transport, Andrew Adonis, is delighted to announce the reappointment of Colin Foxall as a member of the British Transport Police (BTP) Authority.

Colin Foxall has been appointed for a further four years from 4 January 2009. Remuneration will be £14,881 per annum for a time commitment of 30 days per annum.

The Railways and Transport Safety Act 2003 requires one member of the Authority to be a person who has knowledge of the interests of persons in Wales - Colin Foxall is that member.

Colin Foxall has been appointed initially for four years and is currently Chairman of Passenger Focus. He is an advisor to Benfield Ltd and has previously held posts as deputy chairman of the former NCM Group in Amsterdam, as Chief Executive Officer of its Cardiff based UK company and as Under-Secretary at the Government's Export Credit Guarantee Department. He is also a former Dutch Consul in Wales and in 1995 was appointed CBE. All members of the Authority are appointed in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity to be made public. No such activity was declared.

Notes to Editors

1. The Authority's role is to maintain and oversee a police force for the railways. The Authority was established on 1 July 2004, under the chairmanship of Sir Alistair Graham, to enhance the status and public accountability of the BTP.

2. Colin Foxall already holds one Ministerial appointment - Chairman of Passenger Focus for which he is paid £39,000 per annum.
