Commenting on the regulator's plans to scrutinise Network Rail over the next five years, a spokesperson for the Rail Delivery Group, which speaks on behalf of the rail industry, said:
"As the fastest growing and safest major railway in Europe, we're committed to giving passengers and taxpayers information about services and performance.
"Britain's railway is already more transparent than its European counterparts and with £38 billion of investment in the network over the next five years, it is vital that people understand how their money is being spent."
