Michael Roberts said: "It has been my privilege to serve the railway and its customers through the work of the RDG and ATOC. I am proud of the support we have given the railway during a time of sustained growth, and in framing the debate about the future of rail. "After more than seven highly eventful years, I have decided that professionally and personally the time is right for me to move on, and to hand on the important task of helping industry players work together for a better railway. "I am extremely grateful to Martin Griffiths for the support which he, as RDG chair, has given me in making this decision. I would also like to thank the many talented and dedicated colleagues in my team and across the industry, without whose support my job would not be possible. I look forward to continuing to work with them as the search begins for my successor." Martin Griffiths, Chairman of the Rail Delivery Group and Chief Executive of Stagecoach Group, said: "I would like to thank Michael for the major contribution he has made to Britain's railway and improving its capacity to meet the needs of customers and our economy. His leadership has delivered an expanded and strengthened executive team at the Rail Delivery Group, which has championed better services for both passengers and freight customers. "The key to our railway both now and in the future is for our industry to work together with Government, the supply chain and other stakeholders to build greater trust in what is a key part of our country's infrastructure. We have much work to do and tough choices to make to deliver better services, improved journeys and greater value for money. Across the industry, we are 100% committed to taking that work forward so our customers and our country benefit from an effective, efficient and successful railway." Notes to editors Michael Roberts joined ATOC as Chief Executive in April 2008 and took on the role of RDG Director General in October 2013. Prior to that, he worked as Director of Business Environment at the CBI. The consultants Odgers Berndtson have been engaged to lead the process of recruiting for Michael Roberts' successor.
