Investment is key to improving services and passenger satisfaction, rail industry leaders have said.
Overall satisfaction among rail passengers has remained steady, according to the latest independent nationwide survey published today (30 June).
Four in five passengers surveyed in spring 2016 were satisfied with their journey overall, no change from the same period last year. Overall satisfaction has been 80 per cent or higher since spring 2007.
Eleven per cent of passengers were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied and eight per cent said they were dissatisfied, says the National Rail Passenger Survey by Transport Focus.
The survey highlights the task the rail industry faces to run many more trains on an increasingly busy network. Passenger numbers on Britain’s railway have doubled and there are thousands more trains every day compared to 20 years ago.
Jacqueline Starr, Managing Director of Customer Experience at the Rail Delivery Group, said:
“We know that there is more to do to keep improving and to give passengers the excellent services they expect. Our customers must be at the heart of everything we do.
“With ever-growing demand for rail, large parts of the railway are full. That’s why billions of pounds are being spent to provide much-needed extra capacity and more reliable, modern services which meet our customers’ needs.
“Everyone in the railway is working hard to create a bigger, better railway for Britain and to make passengers’ journeys better from start to finish.”
