rail unveiled

::: Rail franchising could face the axe in 2020

introduction

Welcome to the section of Railhub which starts at the beginning.

If you travel by train, or just wonder how it all works, or even whether what you have been told or have read can possibly be right, then this section of Railhub is for you.

Welcome to the section of Railhub which starts at the beginning.

We’ll try to sort out who does what, who is really in charge and, perhaps most importantly to you, who puts the fares up every year.

We have a special section called Myths and Legends, where we try to exorcize some the most mischievous spirits which haunt the tracks.

If you are a student of railways, this is a good place to start as well.

An overview of the main organisations involved can be found here.

If you prefer, click below to jump directly to some key sections, or use the search box to cut to the chase.

(In case you are wondering, this is not an official site sponsored by any part of the railway industry.)
