Transport Secretary, Sir George Young, has appointed a new executive member, Tony Roche to the British Railways Board, as Board Member, Engineering, Services and Safety. Tony Roche, C.Eng., F.I.Mech.E., is currently BRs Group Managing Director, Central Services . The appointment to the Board runs from 15 April 1996 until 31 August 1998. Mr Roche was appointed after consultation with BR Chairman and Chief Executive, John Welsby. NOTES FOR EDITORS 1.Tony Roche (52) is a life-time railway mechanical and electrical engineer, having joined BR in 1959. Until his new Board appointment, he was Group Managing Director for BRs Central Services, which includes all Research and Development, Operational Research, Signalling Design and Project Groups. He was also Chief Executive of BR Maintenance Ltd, until this group of businesses was sold in June 1995.
