Railtrack Property proposes to refocus its development department to establish a centre of excellence for all complex commercial developments.

Helen Gordon has been appointed to the role of Head of Development, responsible for the new team. She joins from John Laing and will take up her new appointment on 6 October 1997.

Helen has extensive experience of managing and developing property in a risk-managed environment. At Railtrack Property, she will be responsible for progressing a wide range of major projects at stations, including Birmingham Snow Hill, Blackfriars, Broadgate phase 12/13, Edinburgh Waverley, Richmond and Wimbledon, together with large mixed use schemes such as Cambridge Chesterton and Norwich Riverside.

Helen already has experience in Major Station developments, having led John Laing's project team responsible for the Ashford International Terminal and linked commercial development.

A graduate in Estate Management and an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Helen worked with Milton Keynes Development Corporation from 1981-1987, before joining John Laing, where she was responsible in 1992 for creating John Laing Property Ventures Ltd. In 1996 she was appointed as Managing Director, John Laing Developments.

Malcolm Vince, who is presently responsible for progressing commercial development opportunities, will be taking over a newly created role of Regional Manager, North of England and Scotland, reporting to the Director, Property. In this role Malcolm will assume responsibility for the management and exploitation of Railtrack's commercial portfolio and for the provision of general property advice regarding assets in this large region. Malcolm will lead a team based in Manchester, where he has lived for the last 23 years.

Bob Hill, Director, Property, said "I am delighted that Helen is to join our team. Railtrack Property is entering an exciting phase of its development and Helen and Malcolm will be invaluable members of the senior management team, which is committed to continuing the process of improving performance and increasing investment."
