ATOC Director General George Muir, said: "Passenger safety is the first priority of everyone working in the rail industry. The Health and Safety Executive has announced a process for taking forward Professor Uff's recommendations. We will ensure that appropriate resources are made available to carry out our obligations, and will respond to the HSE, as required, within three weeks. Many of the recommendations contained in Professor Uff's report are already being addressed by the passenger train companies: ATOC will work closely with our members and other industry bodies to deliver the highest possible safety standards".
