The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) today responded to the recommendations listed in the Uff Report into the Southall rail accident.
ATOC Director General, George Muir said: "The train operators intend to act together to share knowledge, experience and resources. They have instructed ATOC to facilitate joint action to address areas of common concern aimed at improving railway safety and at responding to the recommendations.
"The association and its members are already actively involved in working on a number of key programmes. These include equipping the passenger train fleet to use the Train Protection and Warning System and implementing and auditing national codes of practice for driver training.
"ATOC's members will build on the work that has already been done since the Southall accident and will seek a meeting with the HSC to take forward further the recommendations outlined in the report."
