The number of new train carriages ordered by Britain's privatised train companies is nearing 4,000, the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) said today.
This figure follows today's announcement by Govia to order a further 460 new carriages for its South Central franchise which will bring the investment in new trains since privatisation to £3.7bn.
In welcoming Govia's announcement, ATOC Director General, George Muir said: "New trains are vital for passengers as they are more reliable and comfortable, and provide faster journey times."

Other operators expecting new trains to come into service during this year are c2c, Arriva Trains Northern, Connex, First Great Eastern, First Great Western, South West Trains and Virgin Trains.
Since privatisation, 939 new train carriages have come into passenger service.
3,885 new carriages have been ordered since privatisation totalling approximately £3.7bn.
