Liverpool Street station becomes the first in the country to benefit from web cams

Commuters using London Liverpool Street station are now able to check ‘real time’ travel information from the comfort of their desk or armchair.

Network Rail has allowed five web cameras to be put up, which focus on the station’s main departure board so that rail users can check train-running times via the Internet.

Liverpool Street station, which is owned and operated by Network Rail, is the busiest station in Great Britain, with nearly 124 million visitors every year, four times as many as Heathrow Airport.

The new web service, which can be found on www.vicinitee.com is particularly aimed at busy city workers in the Broadgate area near the station but can be accessed by everyone.

Marcus Long, Head of Customer Services for Network Rail said: “Rail travellers will now be able to check that their trains are on time before leaving the comfort of their office or home. We want to make rail travel as easy and hassle free as we can and hope this new service provides station users with valuable and useful real-time travel information.”
