Network Rail has submitted its planning application for the development of the former marshalling yard at Whitemoor.
The submission was handed to Cambridgeshire County Council on Monday 16 June 2003.
Plans include the development of sidings for modern engineering trains and locomotive storage, areas for stockpiles of ballast and a recycling facility for the aggregate. This engineering centre will play a key role in the maintenance and renewal of East Anglia’s railway network.
Peter Heubeck, Project Director, said: “The implementation of this site is crucial for East Anglia’s railway and for the economic growth of March. We hope that our proposals will once again make March an important railway centre.”
In addition to the development plans the document includes a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and the results of our extensive public consultation.
Cambridgeshire County Council will be considering the application. The statutory consultation period will last approximately four months.
