TRAIN operator GNER today welcomed the announcement from the Strategic Rail Authority that it had been shortlisted for a new franchise on the East Coast Main Line.
GNER’s chief executive Christopher Garnett said: “We are pleased at today’s news. We look forward to seeing the SRA’s specification and to submitting a winning bid.
“There is a lot of good work to build on and much more to do. Our goal is to continue to be the best rail operator in Britain. We look forward to serving our passengers and communities on this flagship route for many years to come and to keep raising standards on their behalf.”
NOTES TO EDITORS GNER consistently achieves the highest passenger satisfaction rating of any long-distance operator (SRA National Passenger Surveys). The company is currently spending £100 million on rebuilt, longer and more reliable trains; new and bigger car parks; modernised stations; and improved information for passengers, as part of its current franchise which expires at the end of April 2005. The company receives no Government subsidy.
