The Department for Transport (DfT) today announced that it has agreed to extend the c2c rail franchise to 26 May 2013, with an option for the Department to terminate from 8 December 2012. This will align with the timescales for re-letting the Essex Thameside franchise on a competitive basis, which will be retendered by 2013 for at least 15 years. The current Franchise Agreement provides for an extension to be agreed of up to two years, from the current expiry date 29 May 2011 to 26 May 2013. c2c is currently the highest performing train operator, achieving 96.3% PPM MAA in November 2010. The extension is based on the same contracted level of service as is currently provided.
