 type Press release
Marking the 25th anniversary of the Clapham rail crash, Michael Roberts, Director General of the Rail Delivery Group, which speaks on behalf of the rail industry, said: "Today we remember those who lost their lives and loved ones in the Clapham crash.
'The lessons learned from the tragedy led to a fundamental rethink of the way the rail industry approaches safety and 25 years later we have the safest major railway in Europe.
“In the aftermath of the crash, a number of measures were introduced to make the railway safer. These include all managers now receiving safety training, an overhaul of training for employees doing safety critical jobs and a better approach to staff working hours.
“Changes put in place after the Clapham crash and the serious accidents of the early 2000s have improved safety on Britain’s railway and train companies and Network Rail are committed to ensuring this is sustained and improved. Safety will remain the industry's utmost priority at all times."
