GNER
The second Intercity East Coast franchise was awarded to incumbent Sea Containers on 22 March 2005, to start on 1 May. The duration was to be seven years, plus an automatic three-year extension if performance targets were met. However, by 2006 Sea Containers was unable to support GNER, and the franchise was converted into a Management Agreement on 15 December 2006. The franchise was then re-tendered, and won by National Express Group on 14 August 2007, which took over from GNER on 9 December 2007.
