 type Press release
Railtrack, owners of Britain's railway infrastructure, has started work on a £1.25 million scheme for new facilities and improvements to Leatherhead station.
The station will benefit from a much improved approach road leading into a brand new station square which will provide facilities for disabled and taxi parking, pick up and set down points, short term parking, with a bus interchange point and new shelter facility.
An additional 94 parking spaces will be created by the construction of a new car park which will be located off the station square and linked to the station via the planned adjacent footpath and cycleway.
The station building is to be totally redecorated with refurbishment and repair work taking place to platforms, canopys, roofs and brickwork.
Disabled access facilities on the eastern platform are to be upgraded along with the disabled toilets and improved lighting and dedicated parking will be provided.
The station square is to be set against a backdrop of a spectacular new office development, carefully designed to complement and highlight the listed station building, and will provide 37,000 sq ft of deluxe modern air conditioned accommodation.
This major development scheme, valued at over £1.25 million, will be undertaken by Railtrack in partnership with Connex SouthCentral, Scottish Provident/Glencarron Properties Ltd, and Surrey County Council.
