  Bures and Great Cornard get automatic level crossings

New automatic barriers at Bures and Great Cornard (Baker's Mill) level crossings will be brought into operation next weekend (17/18 May).
The crossings are being updated as part of Railtrack's £220 million project to install new signalling equipment between Liverpool Street and Colchester, including the line to Sudbury.
The old, manned crossings are being replaced with automatic barriers with warning lights and alarms.
A user's guide, which explains how to use the new crossing, has been produced by Railtrack and distributed to local homes and businesses.
Railtrack East Anglia director Michael Holden commented "This work is part of Railtrack's commitment to update and invest in rural lines.
"The barriers will be operated by the approach of a train and will rise as soon as the train has passed. This should mean a shorter wait for everyone using the crossing."
