HS1 Ltd welcomes the news that the world’s first China to Britain freight service has set off from Yiwu railway station, Zhejiang Province, China. The China Railway Corporation train will pass through seven countries, covering a 12,000 mile route via the Channel Tunnel and High Speed 1 rail link to Barking, East London, making England’s capital the fifteenth European city to join what the Chinese government is calling the “New Silk Route”.
HS1 is committed to supporting the UK’s freight industry and welcomes this ambitious new route, which further links Chinese markets with the UK. We are delighted to see the benefits of the High Speed 1 line being showcased by this new venture.
Dyan Crowther, CEO of HS1 Ltd, said: “It is excellent to see the rail freight industry being showcased here with such an ambitious and exciting venture. We want to support the industry where we can, ensuring that freight continues to benefit to the full extent from high speed rail in the UK.”
