PPE

PPE, or Personal Protective Equipment, is mandatory on railway worksites. Typical full PPE consists of a basic safety helmet, wrap around goggles/spectacles, gloves, high visibility jacket, high visibility trousers and hard toecap protective boots.

Depending on the hazards or job requirements, additional equipment may include ear defenders, a cup mask and an armband.

A subset of this range is required for anyone entering track areas or working within 'red' zones.

The regulations were last amended in April 2010.
