who runs the stations?

National Rail stations are owned by Network Rail, but nearly all are leased to franchised train operators for the duration of their franchises.

The franchisees are responsible for staffing, cleaning and minor maintenance.
They also provide signage and publicity and run the ticket office and/or ticket machines.
Some of the largest stations are managed directly by Network Rail. These include nearly all the major termini in London as well as some major stations elsewhere, such as Manchester Piccadilly, Glasgow Central, Birmingham New Street and Reading.
