 Managed stations definition and description

Station names on National Rail are not always consistent. For example, the National Rail Enquiries database describes one of the largest Scottish stations as 'Edinburgh', although platform signs identify it as 'Edinburgh Waverley'. Similarly, NRE refers to Farnborough (Main) although platform signs simply say Farnborough, while Bedford is often referred to elsewhere by its former title of Bedford Midland. South of Bedford, St Albans has recently reverted to its former title of St Albans City (to distinguish it from St Albans Abbey, perhaps), but Luton (formerly Luton Midland Road) has not regained a suffix, in spite of the presence of Luton Airport Parkway. However, when an airport station was opened near Southampton, the city's main station regained its old title of Southampton Central.
For the avoidance of doubt, Railhub uses the titles shown in the National Rail Enquiries database. Alternative titles are also used where relevant in keyword fields to make searches easier.
However, if in doubt, please use the National Rail database titles for stations, all of which are available on the National Rail Enquiries website. We have also adjusted some titles in the 'stations' database within the Business section, in a bid to achieve some consistency.
